From scratch

a. Draw notes

For those who prefer drawing MIDI.

Select the “Note Brush” tool from the tool bar at top of piano roll. Then you can draw notes on the grid.

  • Click to create a note of half-cell.
  • Drag horizontally before mouse up to control the duration of the note being created.
  • The snap is on by default, hold [Ctrl / Command] to release snap when drawing.
  • Drag the left/right side of a note to adjust its duration.
  • Drag a note to change its position.

b. Record vocals

For those who prefer writing songs by singing.

  1. Set up your audio device and input channel in Preferences.
  2. Set up the tempo, and import your beat.
  3. Click the record button on transport (short cut [R]) to start recording your vocal.
  4. Drag the vocal clip to a singer track, and convert it into MIDI and lyrics. In the convertor window:
    1. Select the right language that you sung.
    2. Choose whether to use your singing pitch for the MIDI clip.
  5. Fine tune the melody and lyrics in piano roll.

From MIDI files

For those who prefer creating MIDI in DAW, such as using MIDI keyboard.

Export MIDI clips from your DAW, and import the MIDI files into ACE Studio by drag&drop. You can also import MIDI files from the “File”—”Import” menu.

From vocal samples

For those who already got vocals or prefer recording vocal in DAW.

Export dry vocal audio from your DAW, and import the vocal on a singer track by drag&drop. You can also import audio file from the “File”—”Import” menu, and then drag the audio clip to a singer track.

Please note:

  • the vocal to midi feature is built for dry vocals, the result might be unexpected from vocals with too much effects such as big reverb.

From a song

For those who like to create from an existing song.

  1. Import the audio file into ACE Studio, right click on the audio clip to open the Stem Splitter.
  2. Split vocal from this song.
  3. Drag the vocal stem to a singer track to get MIDI and lyrics.

Please note:

  • If the vocal is not much clear in your song, it might be hard to be split from the song.
  • If the vocal split from a song sounds dirty, the vocal to midi feature might not be able to produce the right midi and lyrics as expected.

From music score

For those who already got music scores as MusicXML files.

Import the MusicXML file by drag&drop, you can also import from the “File”—”Import” menu.

  • Supported format: [ .mxl ], [ .musicxml ]
